The Sandbar Solar team is made up of 35 full-time employees dedicated to providing high-quality solar installation services to homeowners and businesses. Our trusted, local team includes solar energy experts — designers, engineers, electricians, project managers, and installers — with years of experience on hundreds of projects.
Everyone on our team follows our mission of providing top-notch service in an efficient process — all with the utmost friendliness and integrity. Here at Sandbar Solar, we leverage our expertise and experience to help customers save money — through the great value we provide at installation and for years afterwards in paying significantly lower electricity bills.
Sandbar Solar is proud of the hard work and dedication of our employees. Many of team members have worked with Sandbar for many years and in the solar industry for even longer. To kick off 2017, Sandbar Solar has launched an “Employee of the Month” program. Each month we will be showcasing an employee who has demonstrated exceptional work, dedication, creativity and drive.
Scott started in the solar power industry in the 1990’s after a long tenure in the high tech semi-conductor and biotechnology facility construction field. He wanted to apply his technical design/build contracting expertise in the renewable industry to affect a positive change, while building a local company in his community, which would offer employment and career opportunities to like-minded professionals.
Scott earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from UC San Diego, holds a NABCEP certification, and has lectured on and taught high-tech construction practices and solar PV technical concepts to education institutions, including Stanford University and state-recognized electrician apprenticeship programs.
While not at work, Scott spends countless hours on the soccer field coaching and volunteering to pass along the game to younger generations while still actively playing to stay fit. If Scott isn’t on the soccer field, he spends time with his wife and two kids in the outdoors — camping, mountain biking, free diving, and surfing.

He recognized that renewable and sustainable energy was going to an important and necessary shift, worldwide.
Stuart realized that solar was his new career path, and was thrilled to be apart of Sandbar Solar for its great reputation, quality people, and to be apart of a locally, growing company. On Stuart’s spare time he likes to surf, play soccer, play music, and loves to spend time with his son. An interesting fact about Stuart is that he was a project engineer for 3.5 MW in Fremont Union High School District.
Originally from New England, August studied outdoor adventure-based education, earning a B.S. in Kinesiology from the University of New Hampshire. He ventured to California 12 years ago, seeking a milder climate and a more progressive culture.
August began his career in the solar industry seven years ago as an installer for a small local company. He signed on with Sandbar in early 2015, conducting pre-installation site audits, and is currently a member of the Residential Consulting team. Customers appreciate his past hands-on experience and his honest, down-to-Earth demeanor. He is committed to raising awareness in reducing the negative impact humans have on our planet’s resources, both in his personal life and in his career.
An avid musician, August plays guitar, African drum, and mandolin, and is particularly fond of blues, jazz, classic rock, and bluegrass. He also has over 15 years experience in the hospitality industry, and as a former part-time private chef, can still be persuaded into crafting a hearty and healthy feast on occasion. Sean is a proud California native from San Diego. He studied engineering at San Diego State University and earned his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering then moved to Santa Cruz in 2007. While pursuing a career in construction, working for Graniterock – Pavex Construction (Estimating Department), Sean continued education at Cabrillo College where he was introduced to photovoltaic design.
He began his solar career with SolarCity in 2011 as a Residential PV Designer and helped pioneer their New Homes Builder Program. During this time, he completed 2,000+ residential designs for homeowners in AZ, CA, CO, OR, TX & HI and various pre-bid sales meetings with major homebuilders where he discovered his trained skill at the technical sales process. Having volunteered as a solar installer for local non-profit organizations, like SunWorks, he holds a unique perspective on the solar integration process from start to finish (sale- design- build).
His experience in solar both personally and professionally have taught him the true benefits of energy independence and community involvement. Sean realizes that it takes a community to make a difference in the world we live and dedicated to serving his community and helping to empower people to make the best decisions for their families.
Alicia Moss grew up in Sonoma County and moved to Santa Cruz in 2007. Alicia has worked in Santa Cruz during the summers in college, and absolutely loved the area. She knew she had to live here once she graduated college. Alicia attended Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo and received her degree in Environmental Management and Protection. Prior to Sandbar, she has worked for a local non-profit and then a special district on voluntary programs; for landowners that were interested in implementing on-the-ground habitat restoration, fire protection, water conservation and water quality improvement projects.
Alicia really enjoyed the project administration components of her past jobs and wanted to expand on that more while continuing projects that are both environmentally and economically beneficial to communities. Alicia’s education and work experience has been focused in the conservation of natural resources and the solar industry interested her. She decided to make a career change to solar because it fits her interests and the experience she will gain at Sandbar Solar. On Alicia’s spare time she likes to be active and be outdoors. Her favorite activities are roller derby, mountain biking, beach volleyball, basketball, camping, and backpacking.
